Rescue Crews Continue in Tunnel Task

Livermore Calif July 18 Rescue crews today continued the grim task of extricating the bodies of the 12 men killed yesterday in an explosion that wrecked the Mitchell Tunnel on San Francisco's Hetch Hetchy water project 13 miles southeast of here. Three investigations were under way by the United States Bureau of Mines the State Department of Rela tion and the San Francisco Engineers. Serious charges were made by grief stricken relatives of the dead workingmen that there was a lack of safety precautions and facilities for rescue work and that there had been a failure to guard against such an occurrence in the face of a similar disaster a few weeks ago. The exact cause of the disaster still was in doubt.
