Texas Port to Welcome War Veterans Ship Visit
World War veterans and families will be allowed to visit the ship while it lies in the Texas port. Interest in the visits is expected to be keen as the cruiser Houston is set to visit Lone Star ports about a year from now, showcasing Uncle Sam’s progress on fighting ships over three decades. The Houston, though a cruiser, will differ from the Cleveland, which in 1900 was the era’s top small battleship. The Houston enters service in 1930, similar to the Cleveland’s prestige at its time.
