Lieutenant Colonel W S Mapes former Fort Logan commanding officer died in Denver when his car collided head on with a trolley car early today. Mapes had recently left Fort Logan and was attached to the Seventh Infantry at Spokane and was a patient at Fitzsimmons hospital.

A vapor explosion in Piper colony near Reedley and Dinuba killed H. D. Schroeder and his four children when an electric light sparked burning vapors. The family slept, Sarah Schroeder survived, and the blast wrecked the two story stucco house as debris ignited.

Keith helped the Yellowhouse settlement near Littlefield and has recruited hundreds of settlers from Western Oklahoma to the Plains.
London July 17 a conference on trade union executives meeting here today approved a plan for a great consolidation alliance embracing millions of British workers including miners railway men engineers shipbuilders and transport laborers.
General Pershing departed Washington in the early afternoon to lead the Tacna Arica plebiscite commission. The official party is scheduled to sail from Key West on Sunday, marking the first meeting of the commission and Pershing’s headship.

In Wartrace Tennessee on July 17 the Dixie Flyer collided with a gasoline truck at a grade crossing. Normandy resident Shelbyville locals Muriel Nelson driver and Morris Nelson were killed. Engineer W R Hall and fireman Mason Bright, both from Nashville, suffered severe burns.
Arguments are heard in district court this afternoon in the injunction suit by A P P McSwain against Ernest Denny and six East Amarillo residents. The petition alleges threats against Negroes moving into that area. Four days have been used in the hearing and it is expected to finish today. McSwain says buyers were prevented from moving onto property in East Amarillo due to threats by the defendants.
Lakehurst N J July 17 The navy dirigible Shenandoah was placed in her hanger after spending the night at sea off the Delaware breakwater riding out electrical storms. The craft sailed up to 250 miles from shore with Atlantic fleet ships off the Virginia coast but reported no difficulty from the disturbances.
The body of Fred Conner, Tulia automobile man, was found early today on a road three miles south of Kress. He suffered two fatal wounds in the neck and back of the head, and his Ford sedan was missing. The Tulsa sheriff investigated. Conner may have died some time before discovery. He is survived by a wife and two children.
New York July 17 A girl with a golden voice who left opera to care for a sick man received 256233 dollars from the will of Park Benjamin attorney and father in law of Enrico Caruso The will accounts show Anna Bolchi Fuller was cut five children out with one dollar each and was adopted by Benjamin Fuller She gave up her career and postponed marriage to serve Dorothy Benjamin and Mr Benjamin.
Dallas July 17. Mrs W P Zumwalt says the state board of control should explain why Dr Carrie Weaver Smith is removed as superintendent of the Gainesville state girls training school. Austin notes no vote taken. records show costs per girl at the school averaged 100 a month in 1924 and 76.85 recently.
Berlin July 17 President Von Hindenburg signed a revaluation bill approved by the Reichstag authorizing exchange of war time and pre war loans for new paper equal to five per cent of the original. Obligations totaling 70 billion marks are converted to a 3.5 billion mark debt.

The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled Galveston was receiving unfair treatment compared with New Orleans in fixing southwestern railroad rates on exports imports and coastwise traffic. The decision was announced in Washington on July 17.
