President Truman urged a July 26 special session to tackle anti inflation and housing legislation within 15 days of lawmakers meeting. He charged Republicans with broke promises as Southern Democrats walked out over civil rights, while Alben Barkley won unanimous support for vice president.
President Truman challenged party delegates to judge the coming special session by the record, insisting that the nation faces Republican inaction since 1932. He warned opponents in a cross party clash and faced daily assaults from Republican lawmakers. He remained credited by supporters for facing the political fire.
Amarillo faces a major water shortage after a booster pump breakdown Wednesday night. A dog mauled 3 year old La Juana Ridley causing severe facial injuries and seven stitches. The dog was captured by owners and observed by medical officials at the city pound as Mrs. Ridley cared for her daughter at a relative’s home during the incident. The attack occurred while La Juana played near Mrs. Hattie Sands in East Tenth Street. Neighbors reported the dog dragged the child from her tricycle until others intervened.

Three year old Dicky LaFavers narrowly escaped serious injury when his arm and ear were caught in a wringer while his mother attempted to rescue him. He and his sister Juanita have prior faint scares, and the large LaFavers family ranges from 6 months to 14 months in age.
