Former ambassador to Russia Archibald Bulllitt calls for decisive action using a strong stance to curb Soviet power. He accuses the Soviet Union of posing the sole totalitarian threat to world peace and argues for robust American policy to counter Moscow’s aims.
Bullitt argues the United States must deter Soviet imperialism with atomic capability and overwhelming air power. He urges not to attack the Soviet Union but to stop further aggressions before Stalin reaches U S shores, warning permanent peace seems unlikely.
Bullitt argues Roosevelt failed to curb Soviet aggression and claims Stalin would have accepted a hands off Europe in 1941 for lend lease. He cites Lenin and Stalin quotes, accuses Stalin of breaking treaties, and alleges NKVD spying at the Moscow embassy and Vladivostok consulate with millions in forced labor.
Dr. Robert Patton Jarrett 64, dean of West Texas State College in Canyon since 1927, died at his home. A Georgia native born May 3, 1882, he led the education department, taught in multiple colleges, and served as Canyon community leader. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at Canyon Presbyterian Church with burial in Dreamland Cemetery.
Amarillo is again open to military personnel after the one week ban from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. was rescinded. Col. Jo K. Warner announced the order at a 1 p.m. field meeting after consultation with Col. Joel O Neal and city officials. The move aims to promote goodwill between soldiers and townspeople following prior violence at Ellwood Park.
Congressional leaders told President Truman the House would defeat sending the Senate OPA revival bill to the White House in its current form. A conference committee would be sought to negotiate compromises with the Senate bill.
The Navy announced on July 15 that discharge rules for reserve dental officers are being eased to permit 1500 releases. Active duty service for reserve dental officers is reduced from 36 to 30 months, effective September 1.

Mrs. Savannah Ware wife of Amarillo banker R. C. Ware died at home 2610 Harrison at 3 40 this morning after a lingering illness. She was 57 a native of Kentucky born near Monticello and brought to Texas as a child.
Belgrade military court finds General Draja Mihailovic guilty of treason and war crimes and sentences him and ten others to death by firing squad within 48 hours. The 53 year old Magila Mihailovic faced high treason and collaboration charges with the Germans and Italians.
In Montana's Democratic primary Wheeler faces a push from James Roosevelt and labor groups backing Erickson. The Truman letter appeal is tested as the Senate Campaign Investigating Committee probes alleged smear efforts and distortions of Wheeler’s labor record.
Dr Homer P Rainey campaigns for Texas governor in Amarillo with a speech on the courthouse lawn at 8 nearly and a Rainey for Governor Club dinner at the Herring Hotel at 6 45. The dinner is an Amarillo welcome not a campaign project as he tours the state to gauge political pulse and boost his candidacy.
Viktor Grosz, government spokesman, said nine men convicted for participation in the Kielce pogrom were executed by firing squad yesterday inside Kielce prison rather than at a public ceremony. No reason was given for the change in plan.
William Heirens a 17 year old University of Chicago student reportedly seeks a life sentence in exchange for full confessions to the Suzanne Degnan kidnapping and murder and two other killings, as evidence mounts in the Degnan, Lipstick murder, and Ross cases. He is said to admit to burglaries as well to avoid the electric chair.
Seven American Marines were captured by an unidentified 80 armed Chinese band about 22 miles north of Chinwangtao on the Gulf of Shihli. Marine Corps headquarters announced the capture, while Chinese press said the captors were Communist troops and that Nationalist forces were ordered to assist in the search.
New York and Atlantic port traffic returned to normal today after AFL unions halted pier picketing pending government arbitration with CIO Longshoremen and Warehousemen Union. About 800 seamen voted to stop picketing as Labor Dept promised a decision within two weeks regarding the dispute sparked by Harry Bridges at Coos Bay Oregon.
Secretary of State James Byrnes returns from talks with Italy and Germany satellites and will give a detailed national radio report tonight. Byrnes speaks from 8 to 8 30 CST about near a year of Big Four discussions, with broadcast by ABC Mutual and CBS.
Jacob S. Potofsky today assumed the presidency of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America CIO, succeeding the late Sidney Hillman. He was elected yesterday by the union's general executive board in New York.
