William Luedtke 39, a national secretary of the German American Bund, admitted guilt to conspiring to counsel Bundists to dodge military service and violate alien registration laws. He changed from innocent to guilty as federal charges loom for 28 co-defendants and a July 28 trial date is set.
A man named Will R Winch, grieving the loss of his wife Laura, died by his own hand in a lonely act of despair. He had been marked by his generosity and strong friendships, choosing to join Laura after her death four months earlier. He prepared for death with notes and estate tasks, then took a fatal draught on the couch where Laura died, hoping to be reunited beyond the veil.
Chinese high command reports a Japanese coastal arc across Chekiang from Hangchow to Wenchow. Chinese counterattacks in Kiangsi push the invaders toward Linchwan outskirts, with Japanese reaching Wenchow areas. Allied bombers strike Yangtze targets as U S air forces join China operations.
Washington July 14 U P reports OPA chief Leon Henderson warned that new limits on price controls would force repeal of the general price ceiling affecting foods and clothing. Henderson told senators the farm price cap would drag down parity and trigger widespread ruin unless kept in place. Absent senators hinder a vote on a 1943 OPA appropriation as Barkley presses for their return.

Orange, July 14. The destroyer U S S McKee, seventh built here in World War II, will be launched at Consolidated Steel yards on August 2. Commander E B Perry, supervisor of navy shipbuilding in Texas, announced the plan. Sponsor will be Mrs. Richard A Ashburry of Chattanooga, Tenn., cousin to Lieut High W McKee, the ship’s namesake.
War bonds and stamps are selling well with $226,269.50 bought in 10 days. The month total reached $266,269.50, nearing half of July’s $563,100 quota with 16 business days left.
In Mason City near Grand Coulee Dam engineers switch the town to an all electric basis to use two 10 000 kilowatt generators. The move saves fuel oil and raises the government an annual credit of 15000 dollars from heating public structures and residences.
United States army headquarters announced Major General M W Clark of New York now commands all American ground troops in Britain. Major General J C H Lee of Junction City Kansas leads the services of supply for American forces in the European theater. Eisenhower reports his command also extends to Iceland. Clark had been Eisenhower's chief of staff.
House conferees told Speaker Rayburn that a compromise agreement ends the dispute over sub parity sales of government owned wheat. The plan would authorize the Commodity Credit Corporation to sell 125 million bushels of wheat at the parity price for corn.
Courthouse records show deed transfers including D W Godsey to W H Drake for 1 dollar on Lot 1 Block 15 Famous Heights Park and J Douglas Smyth to Lee Wilson for 2750 dollars on Lot 4 Block 74 San Jacinto Heights among several other transfers to Grace F Smith Amarillo National Bank and Armon T Mays in various blocks and amounts.
