Mound Bayou celebrates its forty year history in Mississippi

The all negro village of Mound Bayou with 1800 residents marks its 40th anniversary founded by Isiam E. Montgomery a former slave of Jefferson Davis. It features a brick public school a large church and a Carnegie library with local officials all black.

Oil Field Road Re-routing Announced for Carson County

Amarillo officials say a new oil field highway will cut through the northwest corner of Carson county instead of Potter county to the four corners. Carson and Potter counties near agreement on re routing U S Highway 66 with a western path from Conway to Panhandle highway 33 near Mary Mere farm. Hicks Transferred to Parmer County Jail in Friona Bank Robbery

Friona rancher R. L. Hicks known as Bob Hicks was moved from Friona to Parmer county jail after being held since Saturday night on robbery with firearms charges tied to the daylight Friona bank holdup where $3750 was taken. C. M. and Red Cummings also face robbery charges related to the same incident. Chief H L Gaither accompanied Hicks, with more arrests expected this week.

Diamonds Stolen Worth $50,000 In Jewelry Store Robbery

Breckenridge Hit By Fire And Flood In One Day

Breckenridge endured a double disaster as a fire destroyed half a business block and floodwaters from Gonzales creek inundated low lying districts. Five inches of rain swelled the creek and damaged railroad roadbeds north of the city with total losses estimated at about $20,000.

Four Drown as Boat Capsizes in Lake Ontario Storm

Four persons drown when a small sail boat capsized during a severe storm off Hamilton Beach Lake Ontario. Eddie Stinson Wins Edsel Ford Flying Trophy

Eddie Stinson won the Edsel Ford trophy in the third annual national air tour. He battled severe electrical wind and rain to land at Fort airport after traveling from Grand Rapids. Randolph Page finished second piloting a Hamilton metal plane as the tour covered about 4,000 miles since June 27.
