John W. Weeks, who served as war secretary under Presidents Harding and Coolidge, died at his Mount Prospect summer home in Lancaster New Hampshire at 3 a m EST. Death followed a long illness from angina pectoris and a coma that lingered after Sunday. His wife Mrs Weeks, son Sinclair, and daughter Mrs John Washington Davidge were with him.
Funeral services for John W. Weeks will be held at his home in West Newton Massachusetts with the body placed in a temporary vault there before later transfer to Arlington National Cemetery. The War Department was notified by telephone from the Lancaster New Hampshire farm where Weeks died early today.
The long illness of Mr Weeks ended in a fatal coma as Dr Wilder and family prepared for the final hours. News reached The Associated Press via Weeks’ son, confirming his death and noting the political implications of his role as former secretary in the era of national elections.
