Local Option Petitions Circulate in Amarillo Area
Circulation of local option petitions began Tuesday morning in Amarillo. Jim Cannon, wet chairman for Amarillo and Potter County, said the petitions intend to call an election on legal beer if state prohibition laws are repealed. The court had decided petitions must bear 500 qualified voter signatures. Cannon argued local option voting should occur with the August ballot. Judge J M Simpson noted Potter County’s pre Prohibition dry status means the voters should decide, not the commissioners.
