O Higg ins wrote his will on the road after being wounded and later died at his home.
The Panhandle, especially central and north sections, saw rainfall from half an inch to three inches last night. Amarillo recorded .48 inches with more rain likely in 24 hours. Fort Worth and Denver lines reported good rains from Texline to Memphis. Rock Island measured up to three inches at Glen Rio and one inch at Vega. Farmers expect significant crop benefits and a strong rovy crop in some areas.
The forecast calls for unsettled conditions with probable showers tonight and Tuesday. Temperature records from a year ago ranged from 64 to 79 degrees, with today’s temperatures climbing from 61 at 7 am to 80 by 1 pm.
Center Texas July 11 A sheriff reports an 11 year old boy running a bootlegging operation selling choc beer for 25 cents a bottle. The youth claimed his older brother was in custody and vowed to quit drinking and avoid illicit liquor. authorities confiscated and destroyed the beer.
SALLISAW Okla July 11 Matthew Kimes a youthful Oklahoma bank bandit was sentenced to life imprisonment for the killing of deputy Perry Chu culate last summer. He was brought from McAlester state penitentiary for the sentence and after his escape from Sequoyah county jail last fall. He faces additional murder charges tied to bank robberies in Beggs. The defense challenged the murder conviction after manslaughter and a 35 year penalty, but the court imposed life imprisonment and he was returned to custody.
Geneva July 11 authoritative British circles said Britain would limit 10,000 ton cruisers to about ten and accept the American maximum total tonnage of 400000 tons if the United States would agree.
City officials in Amarillo move to create a park board of three to five members to study and authorize park improvements. With water supply secured, the board would oversee development of playgrounds across all city sections and report recommendations to the city commission. Mayor Bivins and Commissioner Brymer support early action.

He is tied to the Friona bank hold up in which 3700 was taken and a stolen car abandoned near Vega. R M Cummings is jailed in Mule Shoe on a related robbery charge. Police connect the Friona bank crimes to a wave of Panhandle robberies. Hicks may have known the escape plan.
