Los Angeles 8 1 2 cents, Portland 10 to 13 1 2 cents, and San Francisco 10 to 14 cents with tax.
Chicago police captains received an order to end crime or quit from Iron Man John Alcock after the murder of Jake Lingle sparked a furore. A burglar alarm at 816 West Tenth Avenue drew police to the Roy Burke plumbing shop at 10:45 last night. In moments, officers cornered the source of the noises and a German police dog, locked inside the shop, sprang from the doorway, causing a stir among neighbors.
At 2 pm the Fifth Annual Globe News Baseball Tournament opened in Metro Park with the Memphis Owls facing Mira Petroleum of Pampa. SAN JUAN July 10 Antonio Ramos a fisherman died after attempting to kill a fish he caught in the River La Plata To Alta by biting its head. The fish wriggled down his throat and choked him before it could be dislodged.
United Press reports a mine explosion in Neurode Silesian on July 10 left 142 dead total with 81 bodies recovered before noon. Rescue efforts were hampered by weakened air, carbonic gas, and 49 miners hospitalized in critical condition. Two rescue leaders died after inhaling gas as efforts continued.
A young couple plunged about 100 feet from a bridge into water near Ocean City New Jersey and escaped the submerged car with only slight injuries after being extricated.
Five men, all from Kansas City, Missouri, were killed when a plane crashed four miles from Aransas Pass, Texas. The victims were Murat Boyle, Raymond Watson, Eugene Lynn, Roy Dellano, and Gene Gabbait.
