Rankin’s Strike Stopper Bill Draws Fight in Congress
Rep. John E. Rankin of Mississippi introduces a bill claiming it would halt all strikes by allowing World War II veterans in closed shop plants to be hired without joining unions or paying dues. He argues it would curb defense industry strikes, while critics warn it could aid strikebreakers and alienate labor. Rankin’s position as veteran legislation chair places the measure in a high-stakes committee fight.
