Amarillo area faces dwindling soap stocks with wholesalers reporting scarce laundry powders bars and chips. Shipments average half of 1941 quotas, with oils and chemicals in short supply, prompting talk of homemade soap and extended hygiene routines as supply may improve in about two months.
A 16 year old bicycle messenger named Cliff Braxton rushed into Sixth and Fillmore to shield a baby ejected from a fast moving car. He stood over the infant until the mother returned and carried the baby away. Witness Mrs. Willie Estes described the dramatic action as traffic flowed and other drivers urged hospital transport.
Washington reports that civilian Pullman space will be cut at least 50 percent in three months as railroads reserve 75 percent of 6,000 Pullman cars for troops. The Army could take all of it if needed, up from the previous 50 percent allocation for military travel.
Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp builds the XC 99 long range troop carrier for the Army Air Forces. The land based ship, a Convair Model 37 counterpart, spans 230 foot wings and 183 foot fuselage, powered by six pusher engines, with San Diego and Fort Worth plants involved.

The First Air Force disclosed an organized racket selling fraudulent medical discharges and unit transfers for several thousand dollars. Investigators traced the scheme to Mitchell Field with civilians passing soldiers to conspirators there. two officers and several men are held at Mitchel Field.
London July 6. The Polish Provisional Government of National Unity, recognized by the US and UK, begins steps to seize assets of the exiled Arciszewski regime. A three member commission is empowered to secure Polish state property in Great Britain as questions linger on armed forces, Bank of Poland gold, possible war with Japan, and the fate of 26 Polish London newspapers.
Workers at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. plants in Akron entered the five plants today for the first time in 19 days. Production resumed under Navy control by order of President Truman, and the return to work was orderly after nearly three weeks of strike activity.
The Senate war investigating committee urged prompt recovery of lend lease arms from European allies for use in the Pacific. A Kilgore subcommittee report found nothing done to recover arms or concentrate captured German arms against Japan.
