County judges and commissioners of South Texas plan to attend the state convention in October. Judge Newt Riggs said regional talks in New Braunfels drew almost all county officials. Dorothy Juanita Neal, 10 months old, died in an Amarillo hospital Monday night. She was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Neal of 2 Louisiana Street. Funeral services are set for 10 AM tomorrow at Boxwell Brothers Chapel, with Rev. EB Fincher officiating. Burial will be in Liano Cemetery.
Funeral services for Miss Leo Coffer, 29, will be held in Borger with burial at Miami. She died in an Amarillo hospital early Sunday from injuries from an automobile accident east of St Francis a few hours earlier. She was sister of County Judge Norman Goffre of Stinnett.
Senate Majority Leader Joseph T Robinson moved to begin consideration of President Roosevelt’s judiciary program. He warned against filibusters and vowed to keep the bill as unfinished business, with emergency business allowed. He noted public debate and prior committee hearings and spoke from the Senate floor during a Boy Scout Jamboree visit.
Emmett Galloway, now state parole investigator, met with more than forty convicts' friends and relatives at the Potter County courthouse to hear parole requests and report on inmates welfare. Austin July 6 Robert Calvert statistician in the comptroller s department estimated the surplus in the available school fund at month end would be 3 117 898 92 a gain of more than 1 600 000 in a year School men urged the State Board of Education to raise the per capita apportionment from 19 to 22 while retaining a 20 cent ad valorem tax Gov Allred suggested reducing or removing the property tax if allocations aren t raised and said he would like an ad valorem tax break.
The Panhandle Building and Loan Association and the First Federal Savings and Loan Association reported a thriving six month period ending June 30 with 150 loans totaling 179 075 dollars. There were 28 new home construction loans and four percent annual dividends totaling 24067 dollars. Shares sold amounted to 169 952 dollars. All mortgage loans carry first liens and shares are insured by the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation says manager J F Jones.
