Wheat shipments near 13 million bushels in Panhandle harvest
About 13,000,000 bushels of the 1934 Panhandle Plains wheat crop moved to market or stored in June as loading by the three railroads reached 8667 cars at roughly 1,500 bushels each. About 40 to 50 percent still stored on farms, with harvest ending by July 10 due to dry hot weather. The Amarillo Grain Exchange logged 270 cars yesterday and 138 today while prices held near 70 cents a bushel. Storage elevators and buildings in the Lower Panhandle and South Plains were full of wheat. Walter Barlow, Amarillo miller and Panhandle Grain Dealers Assn president, said half the crop remained in the region.
