The Associated Press reports America marked its 158th Independence Day with 176 deaths, down nine from last year and far below 1931. Fireworks deaths fell to three from seven, including a five year old girl from Chinook Montana and another child killed in Minneapolis when a rocket misfired.
S F Rodgers aged 48 collapsed from the heat during a city picnic at Te Ellwood Park. He received emergency care at Northwest Texas Hospital and was released to his home on West Seventh Avenue. Temperatures reached 97 with high humidity and little breeze while police and fire crews had a quiet holiday aside from a small roof fire at Fourteenth Avenue and Pierce Street caused by fireworks.

An elderly man in St Joseph Missouri insists he is Jesse James and seeks verification to escape charges in Santa Monica California. If proven the same man who robbed trains in Lexington Missouri and Deerfield Minnesota the 1890s he will be freed of false pretenses charges and may sue Clay County relatives for slander. He was jailed in Santa Monica for a month and released on a $1000 bond to obtain depositions in Excelsior Springs and St Joseph.
Rioting broke out near Matson Pier 30 as 2 belt line freight cars were set ablaze. Police clashed with about 2,000 strikers and supporters using clubs and gas. Three men were severely wounded and hospitalized amid tearing gas and flying bricks.

Miss Maxine Ellis of Rocky Ford Colorado is also identified with bridgework. A third body believed to be Mrs Birdie Barton remains unidentified. The wreck caused by a blown tire sparked a fire as the bus struck a bridge abutment killing three and injuring ten others.
O. P. Johnson of the city street cleaning department fell from a city truck at 11 this morning. The vehicle ran over him, injuring both ankles and his head. X rays planned this afternoon at Northwest Texas Hospital to check for broken bones after he was taken by Griggs ambulance.

Reports from Bagdad July 5 indicate three men convicted in the Raymond Fisher Cincinnati student case and companion Rudolf May, a German, were reportedly hanged in Dawaniyah last week. Authorities offered no formal announcement while precautions were taken to prevent public demonstrations. Fisher and May were said to have died after an incident while canoeing.
