Amarillo milk prices rise to 18 cents a quart effective tomorrow as subsidy payments fade with OPA controls ending. Butter and cream ahead with planned increases tied to milk price shifts. dairies cite lost subsidies and rising costs forcing the change.
Senate wrangles over reviving price and rent controls as Porter urges a one year extension to align with Truman. Barkley delays until copies arrive while O’Daniel pledges continued opposition. Dismissals reduce civilian staff from about 1800 to 1000 as inactivation orders take effect. Notices are issued at 100 per week with 500 more expected off payroll in July and 400 to be rehired by August end and 75 by September. Remaining 75 will maintain field until further orders. Dismissals follow seniority impacting clerks drivers and similar roles.
Ex Army private Wesley Brient says he will fight eviction as rent disputes surface amid OPA status. He claims attorney support and vows jury trial, while awaiting formal filing after a 20 day period. Brient cites rent increase fears and inflation as motivation for protest plans near Mike O Daniel's apartment building.
In Houston three new non resident polio cases were under treatment at Jefferson Davis Hospital. No new outbreaks were reported in Harris County or the city today.
Paris July 5 The Big Four foreign ministers cleared the path for a full dress peace conference of 21 Allied nations in Paris on July 29. James Byrnes pressed for a general conference to end the war with Italy Romania Hungary Bulgaria and Finland. An Italian reparations plan awarding Russia 100 million dollars was agreed.
Maj. Gen. L. H. Campbell Jr testified he was angered by political pressure from Rep. May of Kentucky in favor of Henry Garsson an Illinois munitions maker under congressional probe. Campbell said May introduced him to Garsson and suggested he might stray from bounds, as hearings on wartime profits continued.
Authorities report no incidents tied to grain sabotage rumors despite speculation of July 4 attacks. Railroad officials note guarded grain depots and a Wichita Falls meeting with law enforcement while FBI in Kansas calls the rumors preposterous. Insurance adjusters find no sabotage signs in the Quanah Kimbell Mills elevator fire.
Democratic party paper reports a four to one reader poll supporting lowering the voting age from 21 to 18. The poll was conducted by The Democrat, the party organ, though total voters were not disclosed.

Wright Field chief Col. George W. Goddard said Bikini test pictures of tremendous value escaped loss when a transport plane battled a Nebraska storm. He noted the storm tore packing cases loose and could have forced abandonment of the aircraft if five more minutes of wind had raged.
Nelson T. Levings, who finished fourth in the Democratic U S senate primary, says he will protest the July 2 results to the state Democratic executive committee meeting in Jackson.
British writer H G Wells, nearing eighty, launches a sharp critique of the royal family in the Socialist Leader. He calls for probes into alleged ties to the Mosley movement and proposes exile arrangements for monarchs, urging a return to republican traditions and condemning monarchy as undemocratic. He suggests the House of Hanover may follow into exile.
