It contrasts long-standing monarchies and evolving republics from England to Switzerland, Italy, and Canada, highlighting shifts after World War I and the rise of new regimes.

City’s Old Reservoir Fades for Progress at Second and Fillmore

The 1,000,000 gallon circular reservoir at Second and Fillmore, built in 1903 for Amarillo Water Light and Power, is being destroyed as Southwestern Public Service converts the site. Amarillo, then 5,000 residents, later added an auxiliary unit and abandoned the plant in 1927 when the city adopted Word ranch wells. The cement walls were 1.5 feet thick, built without reinforcing steel, a contrast noted by SPS’s Carl Cox.
