It mocks Democrats for attacking Mellon while referencing Teapot Dome, Fourth of July casualties, and a rash of gang violence in Brooklyn and Chicago. It mentions Wall Street, gold flows, and a Gypsy king’s death with a fortune.
Harding Ranch hosts a multi hour program for the Postal Convention with visitors present. Activities include a 10:30 barbecue serving charge, delegations at 1:30, a band contest, patriotic address, oratorical contest, Western entertainment, softball and horseshoe games, a stamp of events, evening fireworks, and all day recreation under Tri-State Fair leadership.
Reports from Oslo and Rome say the Russian ice breakers Krassin and Maligin struggle against dense pack ice as they try to reach six men stranded on a shifting floe near Foyn Island off Northeast Land. The Italia crew remain isolated about 40 days, with rescue attempts ongoing amid hazards of breaking ice and changing conditions.
The Globe issues only one edition on Independence Day and will not publish the 6 o'clock green sheet baseball final.
Hundreds converge to Harding's ranch for the first All States Reunion and Free Barbecue as Tri-State Fair officials report orderly crowds. The 2 pm program features rallies contests softball thronc busting fiddling band concerts and a grand fireworks display led by W E Bowie and Tex Thornton starting at 8 30 pm.
Rome July 4. Captain Arturo Ferrarin and Major Carlo Delprete launched from Monticello Field aiming to fly to Pernambuco Brazil about 4 635 miles away. They seek to beat the existing 3909 mile distance record and already hold the long duration record of 58 hours 34 minutes 26 15 seconds.
Participants in the national air tour rested in Tulsa Oklahoma on July 4 after completing five hops. Twenty three of the twenty five starting planes arrived in Tulsa from Detroit to celebrate Independence Day.
In San Pedro California last night a collision between the tanker District of Columbia and a navy motorboat carrying shore bound sailors from the U S West Virginia sank the motorboat. One sailor was killed and another is missing as most aboard leaped overboard to escape being crushed.
Two organizations begin joint sessions as the Ninth Annual Texas Federation Post Office Clerks convention and the Thirty Second Annual Texas Association Letter Carriers convention open at the Municipal Auditorium Amarillo. About 500 delegates expected with a parade, speeches, and a buffalo barbecue at Harding's ranch following city tours.
President Calvin Coolidge marks his 56th birthday on July 4 with Mrs. Coolidge and John Coolidge at the summer White House in Superior. He plans a quiet day with limited visitors and cake ceremonies, declining public Fourth of July events. Presents include a knife from Allonese boys and a fly rod from Superior scouts.
West Texas sees partly cloudy skies with continuing high temperatures tonight and Thursday. East Texas remains generally fair with hot interior conditions. Louisiana expects fair weather tonight and Thursday, with South portions partly cloudy and scattered thundershowers possible in the southeast on Thursday, while Arkansas and Oklahoma stay fair with continued high temperatures.
Mrs. Rose Thornton age 35 is dead and her husband William C. Thornton 40 and Joseph Heaton 82 are believed dying after an auto crash near Morrison Colorado 17 miles west of Denver. The car driven by Thornton overturned after hitting a road bump. Five others were injured. Thornton a prominent labor leader heads the Labor Finance Corporation in Denver.
Governor Alfred J. Smith will speak today at Tammany Hall's Independence Day celebration in the old Fourteenth Street Wigwam, then address about 15,000 new voters at City Hall. The speeches are expected to be non political in character.
Sir David Yule, reputed wealthiest Briton valued at about £11,000,000, died in St. Albans last night. He headed a major Indian mercantile firm and served as director of several banks, yet he led a private, simple life mostly in India and Calcutta.
Galveston Texas July 1 a deadly highway crash on the Galveston Houston road near Lamarque leaves Mere J A Bryant about 37 of Houston and Lynett Williamson 9 dead. Mrs F L Williamson mother of Lynett is critically injured and J A Llewellyn of Houston sustains minor injuries. J C Houston of Ten Texas driver says he was blinded by another car and did not see the Williamson vehicle while F L Williamson worked on a tire. The Williamson baby niece and other survivors are named in hospital reports.
