Dimmitt youths survive lake flood and windstorm toll

Two Dimmitt youths escaped a submerged truck after an overflowing lake washed across Highway 2. Jimmy George and Elmer McGee, rescued after a three hour search by local and state responders, told officers they misread directions but reached shore safely. The day brought widespread damage to Olton and Hart with a collapsing elevator, destroyed homes, downed wires, and hail.

Attack Case Suspect Transferred to Austin for Questioning

Sheriff Paul Gaither took a Wichita Falls suspect to Austin for lie detector tests in the Pleasant Valley rape case. The Amarillo man, under Wichita Falls indictment for assault with intent to murder and burglary, was arrested Saturday afternoon and freed June 13 on bonds totaling 6500. The 9 year old Pleasant Valley victim had been attacked four times in May. investigators gave few details as Gaither left for Austin.

Elias Jefferson Wingo of Atoka Oklahoma was arrested in Memphis on a charge of raping his 15-year-old daughter. Wingo, 58, was taken into custody by FBI agents amid reports of a Red cease-fire meeting, with bond set at 7500. The case involves court proceedings and the father’s alleged attacks spanning months.

Dope Cache Seized in Major Auto Haul

Federal narcotics agents and police recovered about 500000 dollars worth of marijuana hidden in the secret compartments of a car. The seizure, described as the largest single haul in the nation, followed an around the clock vigil and a citywide hunt sparked by tips of a proposed heist by New York hoodlums. The cache was said to be smuggled from Mexico two weeks earlier and the investigation involved federal and local authorities.
