Funeral services for 67 year old Amarillo resident Mrs Sallie Speer will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the Tenth Avenue Methodist Church with Rev Hubert Thompson officiating. She moved to Amarillo in 1904 and is survived by her husband three sons a daughter six grandchildren and five brothers and five sisters. Pallbearers will be the Tenth Avenue Church board of stewards. Burial in Liano Cemetery. N B Griggs and Sons Funeral Home in charge.
Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace warned wheat farmers from 31 states to plan a 1938 AAA program amid a suspected price depressing surplus. He urged serious consideration of the danger of two or more bumper crops and noted we may wish for an ever normal granary if conditions stay favorable. He did not promise congressional passage of the bill this session.

Washington July 2 The Federal government urged citizens to observe a Safe and Sane Fourth of July. Surgeon General Thomas Parran of the Public Health Service noted rising accidents and deaths and urged parents to shield children from fireworks hazards, allowing participation for older youths only under strict supervision.

Victim described as socially prominent, the thieves took two platinum bracelets set with diamonds and two platinum rings, near the home of the late bath tub murder victim.
Clements Matura, 65, was put to death in the electric chair at Huntsville for killing 73 year old Rebecca Coursey to obtain a bottle of beer. He confessed as he walked to the death chamber, saying he was drunk when he beat her to death in May 1936 in Haskell County.
A 15 car national test run motorcade is due to arrive at 4 30 this afternoon. City officials and civic leaders are invited to greet the caravan. Washington reports the 1937 fiscal year closed with a net deficit of 2,707,247,110,860 dollars, about 150 million above the revised budget estimate. Receipts reached 5,293,840,236.87, roughly 70 million over estimates and the largest yearly total since World War II. Net expenditures totaled 8,101,347,470,000, 320 million over the April 20 revised estimate of 7,781,000,000.
Albert Brooker, one of 19 escapees from Eastham Prison Farm June 22, was captured near Meridian after a long chase with bloodhounds in the Bosque Valley sector. Sheriff Pearl Benson of Bosque County, his son Pearl Jr, and Deputy Sheriff Bill Hickman of Johnson County trapped Brooker after tracking him from a stolen truck into nearby woods.
