Poll Tax Exemption Renewals Ordered by Court Ruling

Poll tax exemptions must be renewed. Frank Hoyt, tax collector, says hundreds were told renewals were unnecessary but a recent Eastland court ruling invalidated an election where perman ent exemptions aged 60 plus voted without renewal. The deadline is Saturday at midnight to renew or pay the poll tax.

Two Amarillo Girls Seized on Road Then Abandoned

Two 19 year old sisters reported being forced from an automobile on a country road in zero weather. They walked for hours and were found near Fritch road northeast of Amarillo. Both are at St. Anthony's Hospital with severe exposure and frostbitten toes. one in serious condition. A named Amarillo man and a second man identified only by his first name are suspected.

Winter loosening its grip on Panhandle and South Plains

After five days of severe cold the Panhandle and South Plains see sun and rising temperatures by week’s end. Snow and sleet moisture totals near 0.48 inches this month with last night’s 0.06 inch. no livestock losses reported. Roads improving though icy stretches persist, with buses and airlines returning to near normal schedules.
