President Roosevelt said American aircraft makers had agreed to supply France with an undesignated number of airplanes. He noted factories were idle and a French order could help start work before a broader American air program begins, though he did not indicate formal steps.
London reports Italy reassured Britain it aims at no hostility as 60,000 reservists are called up for February retraining. Diplomats anticipate a possible showdown in the France Italy quarrel as powers await official positions on Britain and Germany.
In Mexico City a Mexican and a Jewish man were jailed after a mob of about 3,000 attacked Jewish shops and the Jewish Chamber of Commerce. Edmundo Salas said Glantz insulted him. Glantz said agents provoked the attack. Police dispersed the mob amid chants of kill Jews and amid injuries.

New York promoter Henry Santrey says Texas state officials approve a plan backed by a millionaire banker to settle 50 000 European refugees on 1 000 000 acres east of Amarillo. Families would receive 160 acres each with funds to farm and build, repayable as profits accrue. Land and homes to be ready within six months.

London January 27 British and French governments sign an agreement to give Czechoslovakia about 8 million pounds as a gift and provide another 8 million pounds for refugee care. The same deal cancels a 700 million franc debt to French bankers and guarantees the loan jointly by Britain and France.
Chinese guerrilla forces reported a major victory claiming defeat of 1,000 Japanese and Manchoukuoan troops at Sinlo along the Peiping Hankow railway. In North Annwei Province Japanese forces said to have routed a large guerrilla band near Pengpu on the Tientsin Pukow line. Guerrillas also attacked a Japanese garrison at Yaowan killing 180 Japanese.
A Chicago study reports that a high school graduate has a one in three chance of marriage within five years and two in five of working within a year after graduation. Researchers led by Lyle M. Spencer warn women who enter the workforce early may marry later and face higher divorce risk, guiding youths into viable industrial paths.
