Claude Head, Hughes county farmer, was held without bond in Holdenville awaiting district court trial for the January 15 shooting death of James A. Berry at a county beer party. Head was bound over after a crowded preliminary hearing in which Berry allegedly struck his wife with a club.
Petit jurors are summoned for the first week of the January term in District Court. The list includes Robinett, Perry, Riggs, Richardson, Os good, Paxton, Flynn, Hancock, Gish, Hayman, Gurtz, Parr, Wink, Exum, Palmer, Herring, Goddard, Smith, Reeves, Richardson, Osborne, Hertner, Mobley, Winn, Hollis, Fine, Studer, Young, Malone, Mead, Montgomery, Sullenberger, Garvey, Phillips, Rountree, Smith, Wheeler, Winn, Durrett, Allard. About sixty five cases in the term, including two major trials set for February 6 and a statutory charge on March 5. Grand jury convened under Judge Bishop who warns to avoid prosecuting innocents and waste of court time. Senator Heflin launches anti Catholic speeches in Senate and issues a broadside challenging party leaders to respond. He defends remarks and clarifies intent to strike a line from the record.
Paris report says Foreign Minister Briand after a cabinet meeting expressed hope that the United States and France will agree on a pact to renounce war. He noted the two nations are converging on the core principles of the proposal.
A conference of wheat growers from Kansas Oklahoma Nebraska Colorado and Texas will be hosted by the Texas Wheat Growers association in Amarillo on February 8. About 50 officials of wheat growing co operatives are expected. The event is part of a five state series with meetings in Colorado and Nebraska to follow. Judge L Gough said the aim is to link the Panhandle Farm Development program and promote Panhandle prospects while discussing market issues for the hard wheat states. A banquet is planned at noon February 8.
Governor Moody had no comment today on the resignation of H. W. Sayle as temporary manager of the state prison system. Although no official communication reached the executive office, the prison commission was expected to meet soon and name Sayles successor.
Piedmont Missouri January 24 John H Raney 77 longtime South Missouri attorney and former congressman for the Thirteenth district died suddenly at his home near Patterson last night He had practiced law in the region for half a century and was a prominent local figure.
Congressman Tom Connally of Marlin expects to announce tomorrow his candidacy for the United States Senate. The Associated Press report from Austin, Texas notes the development and timing of the anticipated declaration.
The Houston Democratic executive committee failed to adopt a resolution endorsing Al Smith for president and Dan Moody as running mate after heated debate. The dispute centered on Chairman George Woods and legal eligibility, leading to a tabled motion and the meeting ending without a chairman.
In Dallas and Los Angeles reports, boot sellers note a shift as women increasingly buy decorated boots and galosh styles while traditional cowboy footwear wanes. Senator Curtis of Kansas announced he would answer Senator Borah's inquiry on prohibition. He said his stand is well known and would align with his record as an ardent prohibitionist. Borah plans to ask all Republican candidates about the Volstead Act the 18th Amendment and city enforcement policies if elected.

Funeral services for C. B. Wright, killed Sunday night eight miles east of Hereford while assisting at the scene of a crash, were held at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rob inson and others officiating. Burial is in Liano cemetery. Eddie Smith and Weldon Burney, Canyon youths driving the death car, face grand jury hearing Monday. Wright’s son Raymond and a Hereford garage man aided Wright after his car overturned.
Denver January 24 John W Shearer associate justice of the Colorado supreme court died at his home after a short illness The jurist was a prominent figure in state judiciary and served on the high court for many years
Governor Ed Jackson Robert J. Marsh and George W. Coffin will enter not guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit a felony in the attempted bribery of former Governor Warren T. McCray. Pleas are filed before Special Judge Charles B. McCrabe in Marion County. Separate trial motions and state electing order are planned with two special venues available.
President Coolidge told reporters at the White House that the nation faces no danger of invasion. He did not comment on recent remarks by Rear Admiral Plunkett about a possible U S Britain conflict, saying no alarm is needed.
Col Charles A Lindbergh joins Commander Ward Wortman for a submerged cruise in a submarine in Limon Bay then surfaces to tour the vessel. He later sights the Gatun locks and spillway, drawing curious panamanian visitors and remaining unnerve despite the crowds.
The Ford company displayed a tiny two cylinder powered plane with a 20 foot wingspan and 48 gallon fuel capacity. It is designed for long trips with an estimated 1400 mile range on half a tank while consuming about two gallons per 100 miles. Officials avoided discussing full production plans and detailed specs as tests continued.
Reginald McKennace of Midland Bank told the annual meeting that the world is on a dollar basis. He said gold remains the nominal basis for most currencies, but the dollar’s purchasing power is the real determinant of world price movements.
