Mexico City dispatches report the district court granted provisional writs of amparo to Atlantic Gulf and West Indies Trans-Continental Mexican Sinclair and Alex Smith oil firms against the new petroleum law. Twenty four major oil concerns have amparo applications pending in earlier district courts. An amparo may be a mandamus or an injunction.

Corpus Christi January 21 Jurors in the Frank Bonner murder case remained deadlocked at noon after more than fourteen hours of deliberation. Bonner, who later married Barnes’ daughter, was accused of sending the dynamite bomb to J. A. Barnes in 1923, injuring and later killing Barnes’ seven year old son Jesse.
In Washington on January 21 agitation that government agencies spread propaganda was removed in the senate. The Amarillo Hotel Coffee Shop advertises as famous for food.
Ed. C. Wallace local realty and oil broker was accosted by an armed yegg in a downtown hotel corridor. Wallace struck the robber, knocking goggles from his face, the hijacker fled minus cash as Wallace was knocked unconscious by a swinging door. Police pursued but left without clues.
Police and rescuers halted efforts to save a youth seen on a cake of ice in Lake Erie. The body may never be found as, authorities believe, the ice was ground to pieces in milling waters. The boy’s identity remained unknown.
Tonight in the basement of the chamber of commerce auditorium oil producers will hold a public meeting to discuss field problems and legal difficulties. Individuals may present opinions to adopt measures for future development and possible cooperation with the Texas Railroad Commission. R G Barnum of the West Texas Oil and Gas association called the meeting. major and independent firms are expected. The gathering opens to all and starts at 7 p.m.
Telegram from Hankow reports escalating anti foreign situation. About one thousand American and British men are departing Hankow along the Yangtze river in response to the danger. Local unofficial sources confirm the large evacuation amid tensions.
Senator Frazier of North Dakota introduced a resolution urging the Senate to oppose any presidential use of armed forces against Mexico while Congress is in recess. The measure, referred to the foreign relations committee, argues that constitutional power to declare war rests with Congress and that intervention amounts to an undeclared war.
