Bus Fare Increase Takes Effect For City Transit

Bus riders found their tokens now buy only two more rides as the price rises from four for 25 cents to three for 25 cents. The move followed Amarillo Bus Company’s 1948 loss of 445 dollars and came at a regular commission meeting after the company reported salary hikes for drivers. Mayor Lawrence Hagg defended the increase while stating no change to single 10 cent fares or 5 cent student fares. City officials cited plans to boost service on West Sixth Avenue and in the northeast, with statements from Leonard Nussbaum and others.
