Snow Forecast In Amarillo As Fronts Approach

Occasional snow and warmer temperatures were forecast for Amarillo and vicinity. Two new cold fronts were expected to move into the Panhandle tomorrow. High today near 38, low tonight around 25, and high tomorrow about 26. A trace of snow fell overnight and fog was reported in parts of the Panhandle.

Sandie Stadium Emerges as Official Bowl Name Plan

County and school officials finalize the bowl site at Tri-State Fair Park and announce the name Sandie Stadium in response to public opinion. The two day session considered other names such as Wheat Bowl and Bull Bowl but did not pursue them. County attorney W W Gheen reviewed Potter County title to the site and expressed satisfaction.

Not Guilty Plea in Couch Murder Case Upheld

50-year-old Couch of 614 Jackson pleaded not guilty in 47th District Court to a murder indictment under the Habitual Offender Act. Bond set at 10 000 by Judge Henry B Bishop. Prosecutors allege the fatal shotgun slaying of partner J. F. Tennyson at Fifth Street Motor Sales, Sixth and Jackson, on Nov 10. Corrected indictments naming Murder under the Habitual Offender Act were returned by the Potter County grand jury that issued the original charge. Defense is by Grady Hazlewood and ET Dusty Iller.

Nursery fund tops three thousand with veterans gift

The Amariis Day Nursery building fund surpassed $3,000 after the Veterans of Foreign Wars gave $100. The nursery serves babies of working mothers and seeks funds for an addition. Local groups and individuals contributed including the Elks Club, Graham-Hoeme Plow, and many residents.

Life raft sighted near Bermuda area after vanish of British airliner

An Air Force B-17 reported seeing a light and a life raft before dawn 300 miles southwest of Bermuda where a British airliner missing since Monday carried 20 people. The Samuel Roberts destroyer from Guantánamo Bay and a large search flight of Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force planes joined the hunt from Caribbean bases.

Juvenile Advisory Committee to Inspect Site in Potter County

Members of the Potter County Juvenile Advisory Committee were scheduled to inspect a possible site and buildings for a juvenile detention home this afternoon. County Judge E. E. Jordan said the committeemen would meet in his office at 2 o clock to preparatory to the inspection of the proposed site on County Farm Property. Buildings suggested for use are owned by the city and located at Amarillo Army Air Field. Wait for the New Chevrolet. Jen. 23.

We Had No President For Half an Hour

Washington reports that for 29 minutes on inauguration day there was no sitting president as terms shifted at noon. The Constitution places the end of the previous term at noon on January 20, making Harry S. Truman the president-elect during the lapse. Officials say there was no concern over the temporary vacancy.
