Gunners and sailors from Amarillo are highlighted with furloughs and awards. William T. Stephens completed B 24 bomber gunner training in Casper and reports to Topeka for final training. Marine Sgt. Johnny V. Brown receives the Purple Heart for Mariana action after serving in Iceland Guadalcanal and Tarawa. Billy E. Martin, an Amarillo High School graduate, finishes training at Miami Beach Keesler Field and Long Beach and heads to Georgia. Leslie M. Clayton and his son James D. Reese serve in the Pacific. Clayton on a surface ship and Reese a submarine baker. Both men joined in 1944 with naval sea duty starting October.

Life Underwriters President to Visit Amarillo
William H. Andrews Jr. of Greensboro NC, president of the National Association of Life Underwriters, will visit Amarillo on Saturday January 27. He will speak to Life Underwriters Associations from Amarillo El Paso Wichita Falls Abilene Lubbock and Big Spring. Earl J. Sparks leads local arrangements. it’s the first visit by a national association president to Amarillo.
