Train wreck on Owl night southbound from San Francisco
A broken rail derailed the Owl from San Francisco to Los Angeles injuring many aboard. About 200 passengers rode the 15 car train, with seven passenger cars upright and four coaches plus one tourist sleeper overturned. Engineer H P Lawrence and conductor George Cochran were unhurt as crews assisted the injured amid a ghastly scene.
