Three Children Die in Fire Trapping Family Home
A morning blaze in the 1700 block of South Arthur trapped Senaida Torres age four Jose Torres age two and Regina Torres four months. The children of Pvt Regina Torres their father overseas in the European theater perished in a converted railway box car living quarters. Fire Chief Earl Curry said the fire began near a gas stove with neighbors and Rev L A Ortiz trying to reach the children before flames gutted the interior. Bodies remained at Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home awaiting burial arrangements.
