Rafael De La Colina Mexican consul at Laredo to resume duties Friday with a six member staff including vice consul G G Garza Lopez. The Laredo consulate will reopen by simply unlocking the doors as nothing was removed when it closed December 18 by Mexican government order. Clerks Jacinto Quintano Julian Saenz Francisco Cos D Mancha Macias and Francisco Ceniceros accompany him.
A jury found Bert Smith not guilty in the Stinnett bank robbery case heard in Panhandle district court. Smith denied involvement, testified with alibi and claimed a coerced confession. J. W. Adams, linked to the robbery, remains to be tried this afternoon as witnesses testified.
Police investigated two morning burglaries. Kligman’s Clothing at 305 East Fourth Avenue reported about $200 in clothes, a leather trunk, and jewelry stolen after breaking the front door lock. Harrington’s Grocery at 412 West Eleventh Avenue lost two cartons of cigarettes and one dollar in pennies from the cash drawer.
A special grand jury in Providence Rhode Island reviewed evidence in the slaying of three men aboard the rum runner Black Duck by coast guardsmen and reported in superior court that it found no indictment.
Washington January 15. The House Immigration Committee examined steps to patrol one of the longest borders as part of the Hoover prohibition enforcement reform program. Chairman Johnson summoned Immigration Commissioner Hull and other labor department officials for questioning. Debate on prohibition and enforcement continued in both houses as lawmakers prepare legislation and committee chairs plan sessions. Senate questions whether surrendering petty offenders to US commissioners would violate the right to trial by jury.
Humble Oil and Refining Company announced sharp posted-price reductions for Texas crude. Cuts ranged from 15 to 41 cents per barrel to align crude with petroleum product prices amid overproduction concerns. Coastal crude A and B grades were cut 25 cents, A grade set at 1.05 dollars and B at 0.90 with small differentials.
New officers will preside at the Panhandle-Plains of Texas Inc meeting tomorrow at 11 in the Amarillo Hotel. Delegates from all Panhandle counties are invited to outline the 1930 program of work. Officers include Dr J W Stevens Tulsa president Sam Braswell Clarendon vice president Howard A Ferguson general manager O V Vernon secretary treasurer and H M Luna exhibit manager. Directors listed are F H Hill Panhandle E B Black Hereford C H Lloyd Vega Maury Hopkins Plainview J A Hill Canyon George Briggs Pampa and H Clutter Amarillo.

Amarillo voters authorize a 550000 bond for two new buildings and additions at three units. The board will meet Friday to review architect plans and site purchases. Major items include a West Amarillo junior high at 165000 and additions at McKinley and North Amarillo schools.
Rescue crews battled through snow choked canyons across the west seeking missing persons after a ferocious blizzard. Miners and cowboys searched near Pioche Nevada for Maury Graham the missing Western Air Express pilot. Actress Mario Prevost and five friends were marooned in Tehachapi mountains California. Two missing girls Alice Chase La Verne Harding sought in California mountains as searchers braved brutal trails. E L Johnston found dead in a San Bernardino cabin location.
In Vincennes Indiana women pray as men toil to hold back the Wabash flood now rising toward 26 feet. Levees and sandbags struggle to protect a city quarter and Knox county while farms along the river face spreading floodwaters. Families flee in autos and wagons as the river threatens historic inundation.
Laredo officials and Mexican consulate staff are en route from San Antonio to reopen the consulate after a December closing. The move follows threats by District Attorney John A. Valls about arresting former President Plutarco Elias Calles over conspiracy to murder. Businessmen anticipate resumption of international trade.
The Interstate Commerce Commission conditionally authorized the Gulf and West Texas railway to lay a new line through Gillespie Mason McCullough Concho and Tom Green counties in Texas. The decision follows a formal review and conditions set by the agency.
In Texarkana, a compulsory school vaccination order led to a rush at Dr. William Hibbitts clinic. About 490 to 500 people, including some voters, sought free vaccines. The doctor injured his finger while handling vaccine tubes. He faced reimbursement questions from the city and school board, both distancing from the action. Fifty seven cases were under quarantine, with 40 on the Texas side.
Dr. H. P. Brooks of Baylor University in Waco was elected a vice president of the Anti Saloon League of America at the national board meeting in Detroit. EB. A. Maness of Commerce Texas was chosen to the executive committee for the eleventh district as league members and workers gathered for the biennial convention with about 2560 attendees.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed ER Tillery’s one year liquor sale charge while affirming RE Stalzer’s two year liquor sentence. Tillery’s wife was cleared as officers raided a cottage at a tourist camp finding 96 half gallon jars of whiskey. Stalzer faced charges for transporting 20 gallons of alcohol from Missouri to Amarillo with 16 gallons cached in a pasture near St Francis after tips from youths. A rehearing in the Otis Fleener swindle case was denied.
G D White pleaded guilty to carrying concealed weapons after an affray at a dance hall in the Smelter district. He was sentenced by Judge Sam B Motlow to 100 days in jail plus court costs. White admitted firing at Bill Johnson who was wounded in the left hip. Frank Condren was also wounded but White denied striking him.
Mrs. Pearl Topper thirty? seven is accused of poisoning eighteen children at a New Jersey summer camp where she worked as cook. She was arrested at Columbia University and denies the charge. An indictment was returned by a New Jersey grand jury. Nine exposed children were hospitalized in New York, others treated at the camp. Poison reportedly did not prove fatal due to large doses acting as antidote.
A posse of 50 captured Irene Schroeder known as the Blonde trigger woman of Pittsburgh, her brother Thomas Crawford, and Glenn Dague after a gunfight on the Pima Indian Reservation near Phoenix. They had kidnapped Deputy Sheriff Joe Chapman and wounded Deputy Lee Wright while fleeing from Chandler, facing Pennsylvania murder charges. Extradition papers were prepared for Schroeder and Dague.
