Son Steals Father's Wife in Polish Immigrant Family Dissolution

In Cleveland, 58 year old Theodore Borkowski testifies his son Chester, 38, whom he brought from Poland as a displaced person, stole his wife's affections. Theodore wins an uncontested divorce from Josephine Borkowski, 44, on extreme cruelty grounds after a fight when the son embraced the stepmother at a party. The son was arrested and ordered to leave the home.

Bride's Mother Denies Son-in-Law Is Colored

Lowell Massachusetts January 11 1950 report that Martha Braun a 21 year old model spurned a rich marriage prospect to elope with Billy Daniels a Negro nightclub singer. Mrs Carl Braun Sr affirmed Daniels is not colored as she knows him claiming French Spanish and possible Indian blood while records show him billed as Negro. Daniels and Braun married in Weehawken New Jersey and honeymoon aboard the SS Italia for South America.

Police Chief Slain as Hijacker Fires at Red Rooster Cafe

In Mendon Massachusetts a gun battle at the Red Rooster Cafe left Police Chief Matthew Mantoni and 22 year old Katherine Brady dead. Two suspects and two others were wounded after hijacker Harold Ward held six people captive for hours. Ward, who seized about $100, faced murder charges as police closed in.

Amarillo YMCA elects Allen Early Jr as new president

Allen Early Jr. was elected head of the Amarillo YMCA at a January board meeting held at the Herring Hotel, succeeding H O Willborn who steps down after three years. The board re-elected Kenneth Grenewald as vice president, Tol Ware as treasurer, and L S Cotter as secretary. Virgil Patterson joins the board, replacing H Grady Wilson who resigned.

In Winchester Virginia Judge Elliott Marshall ruled the bequest from Charles B Henry to the John Kerr School first graders cannot be placed in a perpetual trust. Elk City oil fire draws glow 125 miles away in Hubbard No 1

In Elk City Oklahoma a massive blaze at Shell Hubbard No 1 oil well in the Elk City field shoots flames nearly 200 feet high. Kinley and Adair of Kinley oil well fire fighters head from Houston to assist. New York January 11 AP A young couple 29 held on homicide charges over the starvation death of their 3 year old son Guy weighing 14 pounds at death. Authorities say Guy and daughter Vincenza 5 were neglected while two other children were well treated. The parents admitted neglect and were booked after a social worker rescue but the boy died.

Blizzard Hits Pacific Coast and Midwest Cold Snap

An intense Pacific coast storm blanketed Washington Oregon northern California and Nevada with snow rain and hail and disrupted Highway 99 as power lines failed in nine north coastal California towns.
