Senate Investigating committee called Hearst newspaper documents purporting to show a 1 215 000 Mexican fund for four U S senators spurious and fraudulent and said it would pursue the forger’s identity.
Sam Carlton aged 20 was decapitated by a Missouri Pacific passenger train in Jacksonville Texas last night. Trainmen learned of the accident after reaching Palestine about 25 miles away. Potter Co Lir Co sells Glasa Cloth.
Tickets for Abie's Irish Rose at the auditorium next Tuesday go on sale Friday at City Drug store. Prices range from 50 cents to $2 with mail orders to J. E. Biggs in care of City Development. A rush is expected when sales open.
The Bovina railway station was robbed early this morning of about $60 in cash. A door was pried open. Amarillo police are asked to watch for three men in rough clothes. It is believed they attempted to rob an Amarillo store last night.
Five Bulgarian irregulars were killed in a clash on the Greco Bulgarian frontier with Greek troops. Step anoff, billed as band leader, was among the dead, reports from Belgrade dated January 11.
In Jersey City a bandit held John O'Donnell 22 at gunpoint in a grocery store robbery. He rained blows with a revolver butt, pinned the man to the floor with an ice pick, crushed a hand with a 60 pound pineapple case, and later dumped a 150 pound sack on him before fleeing with $25. Local clerks aided police in the investigation ongoing.
Reorganization of the industrial committee of the Board of City Development is complete. Walter Barlow chairs the new committee with L. Ferree, M. Brown, H. Mellroy, Howard Paul, T. KE. Durham and J H Gilvin as members. One name may be added this week. The panel will meet soon to set a plan to attract new industries.
The Amarillo widow of Leo J. Laley identifying Clayton Tontz and Jack Davis in Stinnett as the two men who entered the drugstore, attempted a robbery, and shot her husband last October. Det. H. Denton accompanied her. Tontz and Davis face highway robbery charges after transfer to Burnett.
Clarence D Chamberlin’s Hellan ca plane was fueled at Curtiss Field New York for an attempt to break the world endurance record expected to begin shortly after 11 am. Will R Winch movie proprietor faced another guilty verdict and a $60 fine for Sunday law violations with appeals filed.
William Hudson Speers, charged with a statutory offense, was tried in district court at Canyon and the jury retired last night. The case had been moved from here after a prior deadlocked jury, with FE. T. Miller as attorney for Speers. The complainant is from a North Amarillo family.
Roy Saunders was injured when a fire truck overturned while en route to a blaze in Childress Texas. He was thrown from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital. The crash damaged a house owned by L. T. Hunter with minor loss. The other rider escaped injury.
Borger undertaker C. T. Dobbins was freed on swindling charges after a district court sustained a motion to quash the indictment. The case followed the exhumation of Mildred Eva Elston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burt Elston, who claimed the body was not prepared as agreed. The Elstons also filed a civil suit seeking $10,000 in damages.
Lucus Kansas reports the second child born to Mr and Mrs 8 P Dinsmore aged 85 and 23 respectively. The latest arrival is an 8 10 pound baby boy following a prior birth of a baby girl three years earlier.
Miss Gertrude Thompson, 17, a Girard High School student, is named as respondent in a divorce filed by Mrs. Robert McGregor, wife of Crawford county recorder of deeds. Church members urged McGregor resignation amid the dispute.
A marriage license obtained with the understanding it could be returned if not used was issued by the county clerk yesterday. The couple’s plan depended on the bride’s arrival, and this morning the license was brought back.
