In Oklahoma City a blue norther freezes 125 red winged blackbirds at Lake Overholser. Birds become trapped as ice coats their wings. Rangers attempt salt and ice picks to free them, but many remain encased under ice with only beaks and eyes visible.
Two Denver teenagers Dick Laughlin and Billy King aged 14 and 15 confessed to three burglaries in Amarillo, taking cash and items from Lynmark's on Polk and two Harrison Street homes. Police described the strange twist as rangers later recovering dozen of frozen birds. the youths had been eating aboard a moving bus before capture.
Fort Worth report says a December 15 order limits troop beef purchases to grade B high good. The policy, issued from Washington and confirmed by Lt Col E J Brugger, would favor corn-fed Midwestern cattle and reduce Southwestern shortfed and grass fat steers.
