Edward H. Armstrong, 58, longtime Jacksonville leader who once barricaded city hall with armed guards during a dispute with former Governor Dave Shorte, died in a Jacksonville hospital after liver and gall bladder illness. He served five terms as mayor of Daytona Beach.
B F Bennett starts duties as membership secretary for the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce filling the vacancy after Tom Landis. A former Amarilloan, Bennett has 22 years in chamber work with Panhandle Plains Inc and West Texas Chamber, recently based in Kingfisher as Western Oklahoma Chamber’s field manager. He says he enjoyed returning to Amarillo and renewing old acquaintances at the recent chamber banquet.
The January Parent-Teacher program titled Safety Teaching in the Schools will be heard on KGNC tomorrow at 4 30 and will air the first Tuesday monthly during the school year. Sponsored by the Eighth District Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers, with Irby Carruth overseeing the event.
Governor James V. Allred invited President Roosevelt to return for Gulf of Texas fishing next summer. The president reportedly spoke favorably during a recent Washington meeting and may visit the Texas coast again as he did last year.
Funeral for Thomas E. F. Lesueur, father of Joan Crawford, will be held at 2 PM in a private Abilene funeral parlor with burial in an Abilene cemetery. Relatives did not discuss Joan Crawford’s attendance, and available information suggested she would not attend.

Leaders James Fong Joe Wan and Lee Lee say China can prolong resistance and endure hardship to resist conquest and tyranny. Funeral services for W. A. Cassidy will be held Tuesday afternoon in Lawton Oklahoma. The 70 year old father of Mrs. Horace Griggs died in Lawton Sunday. Rev Farr E Stark of Lawton Central Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lawton. Cassidy was a building contractor who lived in Amarillo about 12 years before moving to Lawton in 1925 and was a Baptist and member of the W O W.
Khiva Temple Shriners announce their annual New Year’s Ball at the Nat from 9 to 12 tonight. George Hammock high priest and entertainment committee chair says 1937 or 1938 cardholders admitted on those cards. Guests admitted $1 per couple.
Judge F. C. Nelson along with District Attorney Robert Underwood and assistant James Lumpkin traveled to Canyon to open the district court. The November term of the Potter County criminal district court closed January 1 and the next term will open January 24.
French anti air batteries fired on a tri motor plane that crossed the Spanish frontier and flew over a forbidden French zone. The aircraft was forced back into Spanish territory.

The Supreme Court refused to review a Fifth Circuit ruling denying an injunction against Texas oil production proration orders. An East Texas field producer sought relief claiming that neighbors’ continued enforcement of the orders unconstitutionally deprived him of his property.
Clarence Willmering and Sam Hinton, two of 11 men indicted by the Potter County grand jury on gaming charges, posted $2,000 bond each. Other defendants Red Craig J. C. Hallmark J. C. Jones Quint Thompson and George Johnston also posted bonds.
Garageman Tom Greer was surprised to discover two 16 year old theater tickets admitted him to a local skating rink. The rink owner had run the theater and kept the tickets for his scrapbook.
