German bomber hits British rescue ship at sea

The British radio reported four more Japanese transports sunk by Dutch naval planes. In the Netherlands East Indies a U S freighter was bombed and set on fire. Forty eight crew were rescued by a Dutch flying boat, one missing. The attack, in the northern East Indies, caused no further damage at other locations.

Fifty-One New Highway Patrol Substations Opened
Fifty-one new highway patrol substations began operation today expanding Texas coverage to 120 towns and cities. Seventy-eight officers were added to the force bringing total personnel to 322. New patrolmen completed eight weeks of training and will work paired with veteran officers. The department now operates 103 substations, three sub-district offices and 14 district headquarters.
