House panel proposes 4.5 billion Europe aid plan

A House foreign affairs committee proposes 4.5 billion dollars for Europe in the first year of aid with an additional two billion for disease and unrest in Japan Korea China and Western Germany. Housing Program Aims 1.5M Homes Annually in New Plan

Washington outlines a proposed housing bill costing about one billion dollars over five years. Parking ban proposed for Route 66 in San Jacinto

Amarillo officials and state highway authorities debated traffic safety and parking on Sixth Avenue west from Georgia Street if Route 66 remains through San Jacinto. Soviet Note Adds Strain Weighing on Finland and Western Germany

Russia shifted focus to Finland after cementing Czechoslovakia in the Communist bloc. President Paasikivi received a note from Moscow seeking a new pact, possibly defense or friendship. Fort Worth Dallas Feud Flares on Airport Funds

On the House floor Representative Wilson of Dallas warned he would block an appropriation for a proposed international airport midway between Fort Worth and Dallas. Fort Worth sponsors the project and the measure includes 2,608,088 dollars for the greater Fort Worth airport.

Barbecue and Movie Surprise for Panhandle Junior Waddies

Nearly 300 Panhandle youths who entered the junior cowboy contest are invited to a special screening of the western Panhandle at 10 Tuesday morning, followed by a barbecue luncheon at the Herring Hotel. A noontime parade from the Paramount Theater to the Herring, led by the Will Rogers Range Riders and the Amarillo College Band, will cap the day. All entrants will receive personal invitation letters.

Four Texas towns struck by tornadoes leave homes wrecked

Four tornadoes lashed Texas overnight with Itasca Ballinger and Woodson hit hard. A Benton County woman was burned alive when a house collapsed on her. In Denton County near Bartonville a man freed his wife from timber as flames rose. Trinity flood fears follow the storms with Dallas at 37.6 feet and rising and warnings issued south of the city.

Thief’s Crowing Locates Chickens Arrested in Pittsburgh

William Brent, arrested for stealing chickens, told police he located henhouses by crowing and listening for hens. He claimed his crowing was so realistic that chickens for blocks around answered his call.

Water meeting on city water sites to be held at Highland School

Randall County farmers in the Highland area will attend a water meeting at 7 30 o clock at Highland School to discuss Amarillo plans for water sites in Randall and Deaf Smith counties. Bush Estate representatives plan to attend along with city officials surveying potential pipe routes to reduce crossed land.
