Hallandale Florida February 23 Birds damaged EF V Palmquist truck crops by using reptile shaped balloons as scarecrows. The birds investigated the odd balloons pecked at them then exploded with a boom and fled. Very few returned according to Palmquist.
Austin reports traffic safety engineer Harry S. Phillips of the State Highway Department says surveys on major Texas highways show about 70 percent of women drivers exceed the 45 mph limit while 54 percent of men violate law. He notes male drivers greatly outnumber women.

Porky the portly porcupine was on the loose near Amarillo City Lake when John L. Newby spotted it and Ernest Boss captured the animal. Authorities previously named the creature Blizzard after a snow storm manhunt and suspect this may be the same non native animal sighted in the Panhandle.
Amarillo Chamber of Commerce manager Carl Hinton urges a next year budget of 25000 to 30000 to capitalize on aviation and industrial expansion. He calls for a full quorum Friday March 10 and plans to return March 8 from Washington. More than 30 Amarillo firms pledged to send representatives to the Will Rogers route rally and fiesta in Albuquerque. March 13 to 15. Milton Cox Tri-State Fair manager and Amarillo delegation chairman said pledges are coming in from businesses that will send one or more delegates. The caravan will leave Sunday March 12 from the Amarillo Hotel with arrangements underway.

The engine plunged into the flooded river after unusually heavy rains north of Clarendon.

Approximately 150 trees are to be planted tomorrow on the Preventorium grounds in Thompson Park. Chester H. Fitz, superintendent of city parks, announced a survey for transplanting from the city nursery. Funeral services are set for 4 o clock this afternoon at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home for Mrs Georgia Stevens who died in California on Saturday. Rev J C Sisemore of Buchanan Street Baptist Church will conduct the rites. The body was brought to Amarillo by her husband Clarence Stevens.

The goodwill trip to Borger is scheduled for March 8 to celebrate the citys birthday. A band from West Texas State College at Canyon will accompany the Amarillo group next month.
The federal government postponed further action in New Mexico conspiracy cases for 60 days. So Olguin, former WPA foreman, was fined $200 and given a year in jail on seven counts, to run concurrently, after a jury convicted him of diverting WPA labor and falsifying payrolls by using WPA workers to build his house.
