Hijackers Net Over $330 in Amarillo Robberies

Two thieves robbed entries at Irvin Liquor Store 1005 B North East Eighth Avenue, taking 265. The Rudy Bauman Service Station at 410 Fillmore Street reported theft of more than $66, and a separate money sack containing over $66 was left at 801 Tyler Street after the night attendant was distracted.

Texas General Fund Deficit Reaches 27 Million

State Treasurer Charley Lockhart reported the general revenue fund shows a deficit of 27,422,912 dollars, up from 22,750,042 the previous year. Bills before the current legislative session were under review.

Shaffer Services Tomorrow for Mrs. Orra Shaffer

Funeral services for 73 year old Amarillo resident Mrs. Orra Shaffer will be held tomorrow at 2 PM at the Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Chapel. Rev. E B Fincher will officiate with pallbearers J P Newman F E Walker J H Thompson and C E McPherson. She is survived by two sons Clyde Shaffer and Fred Geer a stepson Lyle Shaffer a foster daughter Una Riley two sisters in Ohio and three Amarillo grandchildren. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lieutenant Walter Craig Called Into Active Duty

Lieut. Walter M. Craig assistant manager and city reporter for Dun & Broadstreet Inc has been ordered to report March 4 for duty as a second lieutenant with the 368th Infantry at Fort Huachuca Arizona. A reserve officer for four years he recently qualified for first lieutenant and resides at 905 Mississippi Street. He came to Amarillo ten years ago from Memphis Tennessee and graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia Tennessee.

A goatherd discovered a human skeleton at 8000 feet on Mount Angekel later identified as an army officer missing after an alpine ascent twenty years ago. Snow concealed the body until this year.

In Kansas City Missouri on February 20, hogs sold slow and uneven with most down 10 cents from Wednesday. Top hog price around 7.70, 170 to 270 lb noted at 7.50 to 7.65, 280 to 315 lb at 7.25 to 7.50, 140 to 160 lb at 7.00 to 7.40. Cattle and calves totaled approx 1,450 and 250 respectively with feeders and steers steady to weak. good heifers 10.25 to 10.60, short fed around 9.00 to 9.50, butcher cows 6.00 to 7.25. Sheep offerings about 6,000 with 4,000 salable, fed lambs steady and wooled lambs around 10.35 to 10.75, clipped lambs 9.00.

Amarillo Fire Truck Buffalo Crippled in Skid Incident

Amarillo's new fire truck nicknamed Buffalo was damaged while answering a call at the Klingensmith home on Lipscomb Street. The driver lost control at Sixteenth Avenue and Washington, the front axle bent after hitting a curb, home damage was minor.
