Five readers submit ideas for Globe-News Your Ideas contest with a dollar prize per idea until $25 spent. The clippings show suggestions on street signs and curbs, sidewalk layouts, public folders for Amarillo churches, gender roles in business and farming, Lindbergh and Corrigan aviation debates, and open borders.
President Roosevelt urged Congress for an immediate 525000 dollar appropriation to improve the Amarillo helium plant operated by the bureau of mines and to expand capacity. He said the Texas facility is unique in the nation and should be further developed. Part of the funds would finance an investigation of helium gas resources.
Mayor Ross Rogers and Mrs. Rogers depart for a motor trip to St Louis where he will preside at a special session of the United States Conference of Mayors. He serves on the conference executive board with Mayors Harold Barton Cleveland Ben Douglas Charlotte and Angelo Rossi San Francisco. Officers include Fiorella La Guardia Edward Kelly Howard Jackson and Paul Betters.
The county court voted unanimously to order an audit at an estimated cost of 3000 to 7000 dollars funded from this year’s general funds. Payment covers the last three months of the year, with details on scope and backdating to be decided. Bids will be avoided to hire the best firm promptly.
County commissioners court ordered a county and district school trustee election for Saturday, April 5. Terms of county trustee George Menke in Precinct 3 and J. G. Dowse in Precinct 4 expire. Each school district will elect trustees.

City water engineer D L McDonald says a larger supply at Country Club Terrace could yield about 500000 gallons daily from a 48 foot deep sand formation. Rock Island officials are being asked for permission to drill as H R Smith notes many cities use railroad rights of way for wells. If viable, the well would feed the distribution system as a summer peak tide over.
John Kimbrough, All America back from the Texas Aggies, signed contracts with the New York Football Yankees of the American League for 12500 to play football and 25000 for personal services with Douglas G Hertz. A 2500 down payment was received with another 2500 due at graduation and the remainder paid on a graduate basis.
The county courthouse closed this afternoon to honor John Stalcup a deputy in the county clerk’s office for 20 years. Funeral services were held for Mr Stalcup who died in St Louis Saturday. Clerk Jim Oakes has the longest tenure at the courthouse since 1911 and H G Frosty Hamrick has served as county auditor for 20 years.
The Globe-News announces the opening session of the Globe-News Cooking School led by Mrs. Arreya D. French. The free demonstrations start Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in the City Auditorium, promising new recipes, budgeting tips, and labor saving kitchen ideas for Amarillo housewives.
Amarillo earns repeat United States Public Health Service honor roll for milk standards. Inspector George Woodruff reports high ratings for raw and pasteurized milk and enforcement methods while city officials note parallels with water quality.
In Austin on February 17 Senator Clay Cotton of Palestine condemned State Auditor Tom C. King as damaging reputations without evidence. He questioned King's four year observations and lack of full audits while the Senate studies a headless fourth division claim. The House approved extending 1951 note payments on public school land. Rep Lonnie Alsup delayed the motor truck load limit bill to seek a showdown on the scientific formula. backers favor boosting from 7000 to 14000 pounds.

County officials approved purchasing a recording book for limited partnership instruments. Clerk Hubert Cole reported the need to record the first such instrument in the county. The $1 fee was paid and the court ordered the book purchased, noting further such instruments are unlikely.
Tokyo reports Vice Foreign Minister Chuichi Ohashi told the Lower House that attempts to stifle Japan in the South Pacific could bring grave results. He urged peaceful diplomacy to resolve South Sea questions, stressing the Philippines as a neighbor and friend, and Japan’s life and death interests in the region.
County Superintendent Carl Clifft told the commissioners for seven years the office needs a typewriter. The current unit bought seven years ago as a repaired machine has ceased to function. The court budgeted $90 and ordered procurement.
The U S Weather Bureau forecast fair conditions for Amarillo and vicinity with lows near 30 to 35 degrees and continued fair Tuesday. West Texas west of 100th meridian should be fair with more high clouds, slight rain possible in extreme southwest Tuesday, little temperature change. New Mexico mostly cloudy tonight and Tuesday with light rain or snow in extreme west and western-central parts, minor temperature shifts expected. 24 hour min 36 max 63 at noon today 49.
