Jaycee Oratorical Contest Progresses

Eliminations in the Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsored oratorical contest for Americanism Week are held at Amarillo High School. Three divisions exist for junior high, senior high, and Amarillo College contestants. Entrants include Georgeanne Watkins, Frank Stallnaker, Curtis Maynard, Wilma Peters, John Warner, C. W. Fletcher, LaVerne Joslin, Kent Barnard, Barbara Fry, Robert Lofgren, Elizabeth Meyer, Mary Minnick, and Ludy Thompson.

Amarillo High Initiates Opening Services Week

Amarillo High School opened its day with a devotional and patriotic service over the public address system. Principal R B Norman calls it part of the character building program and notes the American Creed repetition as a weekly feature during National Defense Week.

Hamblen to direct three one act plays at Amarillo Little Theater

R B Hamblen directs Devil Take a Whittler his debut as a Little Theater director. Cast includes Shirley Cline Martie O Neil Ellen Louise Blake Ardis Cline Martin Marshal Shaw and others. The program also features The Little Stone House directed by Helen Cline Reyes and It Took a Woman directed by Mrs John Merchant.
