The film actress Mabel Normand remained in a Santa Monica hospital in critical condition with bronchial pneumonia and an abscessed lung. Her temperature dipped from 102 to 101 while respiration climbed to 40, indicating severe breathing difficulty from lung congestion.
Amarillo and vicinity expect partly cloudy, cold tonight with a cold wave and a low near 20 degrees. West Texas shows partly cloudy and colder conditions with a cold wave except the southwest portion, lows from 8 to 28 degrees and highs near 60.
Robbers pried open the Bovina post office safe removing the day’s cash and stamps. About $110 in cash and stamps valued at $40 were taken. Police say no clues yet and officials across the Panhandle are alerted for suspects. The safe’s bottom was beaten out with hammer and chisels, but no interior damage occurred.

In Toledo on February 17 a photo of Evelyn Beach’s year and a half old baby prompted four men to release Mrs Beach unharmed after abducting her and robbing her companion C W Gruenke. The men seized Mrs Beach and drove toward the country before the infant’s image led the youngest kidnapper to urge mercy.
Frank Seibert aged 20 was drowned after entering a large Gulf Production oil storage tank for a pail of oil in Borger. His body was recovered from three feet of oil and will be shipped to Chickasha Oklahoma for burial.
City chemist Jack Wyatt reports analysis of several flavor extracts showing allspice in alcohol has replaced Jamaica ginger as a beverage flavor. Pear extract contains alcohol vinegar and sulfuric acid while allspice mix contains 82 percent alcohol and cannot be diluted without color change, warning drinkers they may be consuming sulfuric acid.
In Ingersoll Oklahoma Gilbert Hutchinson 14 was killed and Roy Hutchinson 16 wounded when KE Marble an elderly recluse shot them and wounded their father before Christmas Marble pleaded guilty faced a life or death term and chose death observers say he was a kindly man who brought flowers to the sick and wanted to be left alone The question posed is should the death sentence be carried out
Marble once mocked as a town crab begged Judge Swindall for execution after killing one brother and wounding another and their father. He is now drawing letters of support from strangers across the country while awaiting death by electrocution in Oklahoma.

Pinehurst North Carolina February 17 Will Rogers said more mayors travel to reduce political trouble. He commented on the protest over his absence from Beverly Hills California where he serves as mayor. He noted some mayors travel when there is trouble at home.
Le L. Verree of Southwest Public Service predicts Amarillo will reach about 10,000 by year end as the utility plans a 2 million dollar budget and notes six months of rapid city growth. Frank H. Cheley of Denver outlines four needs for today’s boy and home life, praising Amarillo’s plans for the coming generation.
On the senate floor the question of who vetoed during Gov. Ferguson's term arose while debating the free text book law. Senator Fairchild cited telling Ferguson to veto a special school appropriation. Senator Love confronted him asking to confirm the assertion about James E. K. Ferguson.
Clifford Sherrill eight year old son of Mr and Mrs J C Sherrill died at a Dallas hospital from injuries received when struck Wednesday morning by a bicycle ridden by his brother Morriss The Stork Shop at 116 East Seventh Street advertises bargains and local ads mention the Amarillo Hotel Coffee Shop famed for food and a general gas outage line.
The Associated Press reports a death toll of twenty one in Southern California with millions in damage as 6,000 people were evacuated. Santa Fe flood areas strained, San Diego eyes catastrophic flood risk, and Taft's losses approach $260,000 along with $100,000 in San Francisco shipping loans.
A cold front after a warm spell and dust storm rushes through Amarillo area. Temperatures surged to 60 at noon then dropped to 44 by 1 pm and are forecast to fall to 20 degrees tonight according to the weather bureau.
AUSTIN Feb. 17 The senate again failed to vote on repealing the Ferguson amnesty act as noon recess ended a stalemate. Senator Fairchild of Lufkin used parliamentary tactics to stave off a vote for a few minutes.
