Plot to kill President Truman leads to Blair House gunplay

Assistant U S Attorney says a Correa home dinner two weeks before the Blair House attack plotted the assassination of President Truman. Oscar Collazo and Griselio Torresola were involved. Collazo wounded, Torresola killed. Nationalist Party figures and Pedro Albizu Campos linked to the plot. Correas charged with influencing a witness. bail set at 15000 for Correa and 12500 for his wife. other suspects named in New York court filing.

Rescuer Heeds Mother's Gall Snatches Boy From Icy Water

A 2 year old, Bobby Ballard, was pulled from six feet of icy irrigation reservoir water on a Randall County farm near Amarillo after the ice broke. Bobby Rescuer Bayliff and a nearby driver acted quickly after Mrs Ballard spotted the child’s hat. The infant survived with only shock and was warmed under a heat lamp. The Ballards moved to Amarillo in 1947 after Mr Ballard’s discharge. he is a Navy veteran.

Chipyong Free of Red Siege After 14 Mile Relief Drive

American tanks broke the Communist surround of Chipyong rescuing a trapped French American force. The relief column surged 14 miles from the Yaju area, scattering a Red battalion and lifting a days-long siege. The Eighth Army reported massive Chinese casualties as 120000 troops massed north of Chipyong and Wonju.

Amarillo Sergeant to Take Lie Test Over Wife Death

Amarillo Organized Reserve recruiting sergeant Sgt. Jack R. Smith 28 will travel to Austin tomorrow and Saturday to answer lie detector questions about the gunshot death of his wife Nell Marie 23 who died Friday night at St. Anthony's Hospital after what he told officers was an accidental shotgun blast.

US Casualties Up Only 647 in Week

US combat casualties in Korea rose to 48,035, an increase of 647 in a week. The tally through Feb. 9 lists 7,245 killed in action, 31,395 wounded, and 9,395 missing, with 826 wounded later dying and 83 missing now known dead. Total combat deaths reach 8,154 and 8,289 remain missing, including 912 who returned to control and 111 prisoners of war.

Fort Worth bulletin says the Texas Railroad Commission set a Mach crude oil production allowable of 2,800,742 barrels per day, an increase of 71,554 barrels.

110 Lots Sold for Housing Project in Amarillo

H. A. Venable sold 110 lots in South Amarillo to Long-Bell Lumber Co for a future housing development. The blocks run 4200 to 4500 from Jackson west to Washington. Venable also notes 40 acres of unplatted building sites adjacent to the sold parcels.

Six U S Divisions Planned for Europe Defense

Secretary of Defense Marshall outlined a plan to deploy six U S Army divisions to Europe, joining allied forces to deter Communist aggression. The move would add about 100000 troops, with support units, to a proposed total defense force of about 40 divisions under Eisenhower. Marshall urged Congress not to constrain troop levels, while hearings questioned the scope and authority of such commitments. The plan expands the current European force to strengthen western alliance.
