Wage Agreements Brighten Picture
Two wage deals lifted hopes that a postwar strike wave slowing 1.46 million workers might ease. AFL longshoremen and New York tugboat operators reached full agreement, while Briggs Manufacturing and CIO United Auto Workers signed a contract with an 18 percent cent hourly raise for 12,000 Detroit Evansville workers.
