Amarillo to Seek 3.5 Million Bond for Schools

Area bond experts met with the Amarillo school board to discuss financing a three to three and a half million dollar bond issue. A 20 year maturity with a 10 year call option was favored to cover needs for three to four years and allow refinancing at lower rates. The plan may include expanding Amarillo High, a new junior high, and an elementary school south of Twenty fourth Street. The board aims to stay within a seven percent tax value limit and will seek public approval within 90 days after formal approval. Census counts show 9,106 pre‑school children and 13,100 scholastics.
