Map Plan For Speed On Dam Federal and state committees meet

A Panhandle South Plains Canadian River Dam committee session is set for this afternoon at the Herring Hotel. Clarence Whiteside of Lubbock chairs the joint meeting to push a hearing before a US Senate subcommittee on the 85 million dollar dam project and to arrange an early inter state compact among New Mexico Texas and Oklahoma for waters division. The decision followed talks with C A Huff mayor of Pampa and Joe Cooley of Borger. Woman Talks And Breaks In Tex Thornton Case

Diana Johnson, 18, of Lynwood California, identified as Linda Wouri, and her husband Ewald Johnson, AWOL Army, confessed to witnessing the Tex Thornton murder in Amarillo. Authorities say Johnson is the garrotter, described as 22 to 25, 5 ft 6 in, 135 to 150 pounds, brown hair, with a 1948 Chrysler. The couple rode with Thornton on June 22 and were linked to the Park Plaza Motel killing found Jan 23. Cleveland-style sketch and details from park police corroborate the account. The case hinges on Johnson’s identity and the missing badge claim sparked by a deputy badge from the Range Rider organization.

Amarillo City Orders Removal of No Parking Signs

The Amarillo city commission directed the Police Department to remove all unauthorized No Parking, Loading Zone, and Reserved for Customers signs from streets. The move follows discussion of sign proliferation around the business district and comes with traffic signals for the high school area rejected due to counts showing no warrant for signals at Twelfth and Polk or Fourteenth and Polk.
