In Washington two high school girls, Helen Andrews aged 18 and Doris Beall 16, were wounded by gunfire from a passing car while walking to a library in Takoma Park. Gordon T. Backus, 51, a forest service employee, was gravely wounded in Mt. Pleasant as police pursued two separate vehicle descriptions.
