Baughman enters Texas governor race as independent

Charles B. Baughman of Austin announced plans to run for governor in 1951 as an independent. He formerly ran markets and warehouse and campaigned for Hoover forces, pledging to back other Hoover leaders if they seek higher office and urging cross party support against the Democratic machine. His platform calls for allowing voters to pursue public office regardless of party, an elective highway commission, lower automobile tax to two dollars per car, and limits on legislators holding other offices.

City health officials plan to block an emergency ordinance at tonight's city commission meeting to require compulsory rabies vaccination for all dogs and cats before licensing and to prohibit dogs from running loose. Allen Pioneer Dies In Amarillo After Illness

David O Allen, 48, a pioneer druggist and one of Amarillo's leading business figures for 22 years, died at Northwest Texas hospital at 5 26 this morning after a weeklong illness. Survived by widow, one brother, and three sisters in Paris Tennessee, he had been with Amarillo Drug Company and City Drug, and for four years owned San Jacinto Drug. He belonged to St Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Santa Fe Tariff Reduces Freight Rates 5 Cents Per Hundred

Interstate Commerce Commission grants a five cent per hundred pound cut on first class freight and related reductions from Chicago to Amarillo and Santa Fe main line routes. Former Southern Baptist official pleads guilty in embezzlement case

Clinton S. Carnes, former treasurer of the Southern Baptist Home board, linked to a missing money scandal last summer, pleaded guilty in Atlanta superior court to theft of $40,000 and received a five to seven year sentence.
