Anti politics bill proposed for post office control

Senator Norris of Nebraska introduced a plan to remove the post office from partisan politics. The bill would name a ten year term Postmaster General chosen by the President with Senate approval and merit based appointments for all post office staff. The Postmaster General would be barred from political committees and campaigns. The President could remove officials engaging in political activity.

Hardware Men Debate Texas Sales Tax At Panhandle Meet

At the Panhandle Hardware and Implement Association convention in Amarillo 152 dealers and guests gathered as J W Hill urged stopping leakage in tax collection while opposing new sales taxes and Dan Wilmot defended the New Mexico style plan. Hill cited a 12 million deficit and 20 million delinquent taxes, arguing tax fairness and collection changes are needed. Wilmot praised the New Mexico system.

Hauptmann alibi is challenged in Lindbergh case trial

In Flemington New Jersey on February 4 1932 the defense failed to prove Hauptmann was not seen near the Lindbergh estate with a ladder. Kloppenburg testified they played music at Hauptmanns home April 2 1932 while Lupica testified a man with a ladder car was seen March 1 1932 near the estate but could not identify Hauptmann.

Bus Passenger Resists Thugs Wounded Near Tyler

Joe Logan a 28 year old Tyler butcher was badly wounded after resisting two masked robbers who boarded a Sunshine bus five miles south of Winona Texas. The robbers escaped in a car that followed from Gladewater and stole 40 dollars from eight passengers. Logan knocked the pistol from one robber but was struck and knocked unconscious as a negro passenger kicked the gun away.

Thugs Strike Again Take Rope Burglars Nab Safer Loot

Whiskey burglars struck twice at Fox Drug Store No 7 on Line Avenue and Furr Food Piggly Wiggly at West Sixteenth Avenue. About 400 dollars in cash and goods were taken from Fox and 800 dollars from the Furr store. Authorities suspect the same gang. a 600 pound safe was wheeled away in East Amarillo. Police found the damaged safes and noted several men participated.

Bank Robbery In Carthage Involves Three Men

Three men robbed First National Bank of Carthage of about 1000 dollars. They entered with pistols, forced cashier A. L. Ross to open the vault, but fled with cash on the counter as customers entered. No violence reported. Rangers and some 100 officers joined the search, pursued toward Henderson and Shreveport, abandoning the car sixteen miles from Carthage.
