More than 150 Amarillo Rotary Club members and their wives will be guests of the Pampa Rotary Club at a Thursday night banquet at the Baptist Church in Pampa. Weather forecast shows unsettled and much colder conditions tonight with temperatures around 20 degrees above normal. Thursday will be partly to mostly cloudy with cooler highs, Panhandle forecast 16 to 20 above, southeast portions cooler and fair, New Mexico generally fair then colder tonight and Thursday. Japs Fall Back Before Chinese In Shanghai Battle

Chinese forces held off a Japanese assault at the Hongkow border in Shanghai and drove them back despite heavy fire and air bombardment. Concurrent fighting occurred at Chapei and Woosung forts as Japanese ships bombarded the area. casualties were announced for the Japanese while U.S. and other observers watched for peace.
